Happy Holidays! No matter what you celebrate, there is always something to be joyful for today. For Jennelle (on the right below) and Niya (on the left below), who are rocking some looks for Christmas Fashion 2016, their friendship is definitely something to be cheerful for. These two girls have been together since their first days in school. Their parents were both heavily involved in their education and planning its activities, so Niya and Jennelle would always be at each other's houses and practically grew up together. Together, they experienced a lot of pivotal moments like various graduations as they went from elementary to the end of high school. Yet, the cap and gown day on their senior year wouldn't end this absolutely amazing relationship. Their journey as best friends still had a another chapter in store for them.
When the temperature drops all the way down to a freezing twenty three degrees, then we know that it's really starting to be winter. The trees have gone almost completely barren, and the days have been growing shorter and shorter each week. However, fall ins't officially over yet. That's at least not until December 21st, the day of the solstice which beings the winter season. Today, I've decided to rock my own flavor of teen fall fashion for the iconic time of year that is soon coming to a close. As Thanksgiving has well passed and the radios only seem to blast Christmas music, I'd like to take the time to reflect on the past few months that have been quite living changing.
It takes a lot of motivation and drive to start your own fashion brand, especially when you're only 16. Today's December fashion feature is a tad bit out of the ordinary compared to the usual posts but is nonetheless just as special. Say hello to Diskko, a rising name not only in the department of fashion but also in outdoor and skateboarding equipment. The journey of how Diskko came to be wasn't always an easy ride, but the maker of Diskko proves that with a little perseverance, cleverness, and planning, anything is possible even when at a young age. The founder, Russell Alexeev, wishes to take his brand one step further to be a company of the future that will make an imprint on current and future generations. For Russell, Diskko is more than just a name, it's a movement.
For an athlete, there is a greater fear than losing a game. The greatest fear is losing the ability to play. That was almost a reality for today's December fashion featured individual, Alina, who is rocking an Urban Outfitters look. Alina is an avid soccer player, and she has loved the sport ever since she could walk. Unfortunately, her ability to even walk would soon be stripped away when she tore her ACL during a scrimmage game for her high school. Alina was told by her doctors that she needed surgery and that was perhaps the most nerve wrecking part. She'd never gotten surgery in her life before but didn't cry because she didn't want her parents to know how upset she was. When surgery day came, it was beyond hectic. Alina describes that it was hell between the pain and incapability of moving. What's most amazing though is her road to recovery after the incident.
Sickness can often keep us from reaching our goals. Yet, there are times when the light seems to shine through the clouds, and we get a reason to keep moving forward. Such small events can be enough to push us past our struggle. Today's New Jersey fashion and December fashion featured individual is Caitlin who is wearing a stellar rainy day look. As a little girl, Caitlin loved the arts and especially dance. The day of her first recital was quite the experience and had its highlights and downfalls. After sleeping overnight at her aunt's house, she woke up in a terrible condition making it almost impossible to perform later that night. Caitlin recalls her ears hurting, having a high temperature, and breaking out into multiple sweats. During the car ride, her parents held a high concern for her well being and were scared of what could happen that night. Cat remembers sobbing about the situation because they didn't want her to dance. Then, she'd soon find the strength to make it through.
As they say in the musical Rent, a year is 525,600 minutes. In that time, a lot of things can change right before our eyes. For Julian and Josue, that was all the time it took to go from complete strangers to best friends. Today, they are the two fashion featured individuals for men's winter street fashion. The duo met through one of Josue's old flames. Josue remembers walking home with Julian and experiencing his New York humor. Julian, however, was a still a little bit new to Josue, and he couldn't yet seem to make how their friendship would turn out. Eventually, they discovered that they shared various common interests in clothing and music. The two soon to be brothers would speak endlessly of new sneakers, hip-hop artists, or their shared fashion style. Their similarities enabled them to develop their friendship within the next few months.
The most powerful tool in the arsenal of a child is their imagination. This can be truly witnessed in the epitome of childhood dreams in Walt Disney World, perhaps the most popular theme park ever. Today's New Jersey fashion and teen fall fashion individual is Amanda who has on an awesome ladies' open shoulder top outfit. Amanda had spent her whole life visiting Disney World but had never once step foot in its counterpart on the West Coast, Disneyland, the original park. In fact, she had been to Disney World 25 times prior, but she finally got to experiences it's California equivalent last summer. At it's core, both parks are able to deliver a wonderful and memorable stay, but each has their own special differences and characteristics.
Thanksgiving is never the same when there is an empty chair. Every person is a piece of a family, and sometimes, without that person , it's hard for a family to feel whole. Today's New Jersey fashion and teen fall fashion individual is Alvaro who is rocking another great sweater look. Alvaro has an older brother, Carlo, and as immigrants from Peru, they share a very close relationship like many brothers do. If there is anyone thing that Alvaro is grateful for today, it's for his older sibling. This year at the table, Carlo unfortunately won't be in attendance. Right now, Alvaro's brother is living in Madrid, Spain for a few months, but he'll be home in time for Christmas. No matter where each one is, Alvaro says that the bond between him and his brother will never break.
Brothers from the beginning are brothers for life. Today's teen fall fashion and New Jersey fashion individuals are Matt and Denny, a duo who have been friends since they were little kids running around on the soccer field. After playing soccer for around a decade, the pair have become exceptional players. Even though they weren't on the same team these past months, their brotherhood still holds as strong as ever. This fall, Denny's U18 soccer games took him all the way to Boston in front of prestigious college coaches. For Matt, his high school soccer team went all the way to the state semi-finals in the school's most successful season. Although his high school has a large center on its foot ball life, this year, soccer became equally as esteemed and appreciated. Through wins, losses, and separation, Denny and Matt retain their valuable soccer relationship and take the qualities and skills they learn on the field and apply them to the classroom.
When we love an art form, one day we’re interpreting it, and the next day, we’re creating it. Today’s fall street fashion and New Jersey fashion individual is Jessica who is rocking a women’s flannel outfit. For almost all of her life, Jessica has been the forefront of every choir she’s been a part of, even since a young age. Like many young chorus singers, she began on Sundays in church. Jessica’s voice during a Christmas carol sparked the interest of her instructor, and she was quickly put into the adult choir. Jess had no idea that she’d quickly be up at the head of the group. All the way from middle school well into high school, her voice rang through auditoriums as well as everywhere she went. Realizing that all eyes were often on her, out of stage fright, Jessica dropped singing. In the process, however, she found a new passion within music. Instead of singing it, she began to compose it herself.
